12 Years. Final paper

Now that Solomon Nothrup's memoir has been read and Steve McQueen's movie version has been viewed by the class -We will work toward our final paper for the class.  The paper needs to be 2-3 pages in length. Please include a cover page with essential information.

The pAper needs to reflect on the experiences of Solomon Northrop paying particular attention to his experiences when illegally held in captivity. The paper should include an introduction to his book and the 2013 movie. Then, you should reflect on the strengths and possible weaknesses of the two versions. Explain what version had a greater impact on its audience and explain why. Comparing and contrasting is an option but be sure to avoid listing different aspects of each version.  Clear, concise arguments that are developed are important for this short paper.

100 points. Major grade.
Due Wednesday 6/18 in school

Last Prompt - Finish Book

Choose one scene from the last 1/4 of the book and elaborate on it by:




First --> Describe the scene and explain why it was such a significant scene in understanding the plight that slaves faced during their servitude.

Then -->  Find a supporting academic article that further supports Northrup and his experience.  Your search should should end with site:.edu  This will ensure you find an article from an academic institution.  Once discovered read the article closely.

Lastly --> Explain what you learned in the article (make sure to cite article in the write-up) and what details from the article support Northrup's experiences as a slave and give us a better understanding of the plight of slaves.

Prompt #4 12 Years (Chapter 4)

In Chapter 4 Northrup is transferred to a pen in Richmond, Virginia.  Upon meeting the owner of the pen, Mr. Goodin, Solomon makes a mistake.  What is the mistake?  How does Burch explain the consequences of that same mistake in the future?  Lastly, explain the overall treatment of Solomon and others in this pen.
